Description
Within Philips, the Domestic Appliances and Personal Care (DAP) division is responsible for a wide range of products like kitchen appliances, irons and vacuum cleaners to shavers, electric toothbrushes, beauty-care products and home health and fitness products. A first restructuring plan involved the suppression of 100 jobs in April 2003, followed in September 2003 by a second measure cutting 180 jobs. Part of the electrical razors production has been relocated in China. In November 2004, Philips announced it will cut 60 jobs at its solar production division in Drachten (Suncare). Philips has some 80 employees in the Drachten division active in solari cell production. The research unit of the division will continue operating with the remaining 20 employees, Philips said. Philips will relocate the solar production activities to a low-cost country, mostly Hungary or Poland, as it considers the price of the solar cells produced in Drachten too high. According to spokesman Gert van Doorn, Philips will start with the relocation of the activities in the second quarter of 2005.
