The restructuring of Altadis France is part of the European restructuring plan also affecting Spain. In France, a total of 701 jobs will be affected on different units. By the end of August 2005, the unit of Lille will close affecting 456 jobs. The unit of Morlaix will close by the end of August 2004 affecting 38 jobs. The unit of Dijon will close by the end of 2004 affecting 62 jobs. The management department of Lille (69 jobs) and the unit of Torreins (76 jobs) will close by the end of 2004. The measure is due to the decrease in the tobacco consumption market in Europe. On 19 April 2004, the courts suspended the social plan. On 16 June 2004, the plan was cancelled by the courts, arguing that the internal mobility measures proposed by the company were not sufficient. On 7 July 2004, a new social plan was proposed and unanimously accepted. The number of redundancies is left unchanged, but the internal mobility measures have been improved.
