SBI, a US-based multinational company owned by an investment fund, announced a world-wide restructuring plan for Fila. The restructuring process will involve 550 redundancies. Employment reduction will affect 350 employees in Europe, of which 250 will be in Italy. The main company locations will be Sparks (US, Maryland), Milano (Italy, Treviso) and Seoul (South Korea). The R&D unit for shoes, now at Peabody (US), will be closed down and relocated to Montebelluna (Italy) by 30 September 2003. The US retail company will be closed and the buying centre for shoes will be moved from Taiwan to China.
