Description
Ardo Austria Frost GmbH, the Austrian subsidiary of Belgium-based Ardo Group, announced the closure of its frozen vegetable production and packaging plant in Groß-Enzersdorf, Lower Austria, by the end of August 2027. The restructuring affects 190 employees and around 50 agency workers.
The company cited the site's lack of economic competitiveness, pointing to higher energy, labour and raw-material costs in Austria than at other European production locations. Production for the Austrian market will be transferred within Ardo’s European network. Ardo will continue supplying the Austrian market through other European sites.
The company is a key processor of vegetables grown in the Marchfeld region. The closure will affect the entire Groß-Enzersdorf facility.
In addition to direct job losses, around 270 supplying farmers and the producer organisation ETG, representing approximately 500 vegetable farms, are expected to be affected. The trade union PRO-GE called for measures to preserve jobs, a social plan is under preparation.
The closure is part of a wider restructuring programme across Austria and Belgium, involving a total of 227 job losses: Ardo 2026 - EU.
