Description
Szpital Miejski w Miastku, a municipal hospital in Pomorskie Voivodeship, Poland, entered bankruptcy proceedings in 2026. Collective redundancies cover around 180 employees on contracts of employment. The redundancies will affect nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, and administrative/support personnel.
The hospital accumulated debts exceeding PLN 40 million and lost its medical staff. The National Health Fund also imposed a penalty of PLN 13.2 million over irregularities in the settlement of procedures carried out by an external company.
The healthcare facility progressively suspended its departments: internal medicine from 1 July 2026, surgery and intensive care from 17 July, and the operating theatre and diagnostic units including X-ray and computed tomography from 1 August. Its contracts with the National Health Fund lapsed on 1 and 4 August.
The Wojewódzki Szpital Specjalistyczny in Słupsk offered employment to the hospital’s nurses. The Powiatowe Centrum Pomocy Rodziny in Bytów and Miastko commune offered support to employees and their families.
The hospital is owned by Miastko commune, which had recently transferred PLN 5 million to it. Two emergency medical teams remain stationed in Miastko and patients requiring hospitalisation are directed to Bytów, Kościerzyna, Chojnice, Słupsk and Człuchów.
