Description
EEW Special Pipe Constructions, a German manufacturer of components for offshore wind turbines, announced roughly 100 job cuts at its Rostock Überseehafen production plant in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The layoffs are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The decision was made because the company expects a limited utilization of its capacity up to and including 2028. This limited utilization is driven by a steep decline in offshore wind turbine orders, with no new projects awarded on German coasts in 2026. Moreover, wind farm expansions that have already been approved are also stalling due to rising costs. The company also faces intense competition from chinese suppliers, as preformed steel parts can enter the EU duty-free.
The cut will only affect the production unit at the Rostock port site.
There are currently around 1,000 employees working at the site in Rostock.100 employees are expected to leave the company by the end of 2026.
