Description

Aldi Süd, a German discount retailer, announced the elimination of about 150 jobs at its headquarters in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The cuts target the Human Resources and Customer Interaction marketing departments. The timeline of the restructuring has not been communicated.

The reduction is driven by rising costs in the discount sector, increasing IT requirements, and evolving consumer habits. The use of AI in customer communications is also likely to lead to job cuts.

All job losses are concentrated at the Mülheim headquarters; employees were offered termination agreements. Around 100 layoffs affect the Human Ressources unit. Another 40 to 50 layoffs affect the customer interaction unit. The company also plans to shift certain marketing functions to Hungary as part of a broader cost-saving strategy. Aldi Süd notes that all affected employees are provided with legal support.

Aldi Süd employs roughly 50,000 people in Germany, with around 2,000 staff at its Mülheim an der Ruhr base. The company operates around 2000 stores throughout Germany.

Earlier this year the company had already announced a reduction of 1,250 employees in its digital unit in Mülheim an der Ruhr Aldi Süd 2025 - DE.
