Description
Gotion InoBat Batteries (operating through GIB EnergyX Slovakia), a joint venture of the Chinese battery maker Gotion High-Tech and the Slovak firm InoBat, is developing a battery cell gigafactory near Šurany, Slovakia. In September 2026, Volkswagen’s battery division PowerCo announced plans to acquire a 49% stake in the project, while Gotion will keep 51%. The two partners are to run the venture jointly, and the deal is still subject to regulatory approvals.
The plant will produce LFP battery cells for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, with serial production planned by the end of 2027. The project plans to create more than 1,000 jobs.
