European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Ericsson, a Swedish telecommunications and information technology company, announced that 131 jobs are expected to be cut at its research and development operations in Genoa, Italy. The planned workforce reduction affects the entire Optical R&D unit and part of another R&D department involved in advanced network technologies and infrastructure. The restructuring is linked to the continuing difficulties affecting the Italian telecommunications market.
The procedure involves 56 employees, 64 managers and 11 executives. Trade unions have called for discussions with the company and public authorities and urged measures to safeguard employment, while local, regional and national political representatives have requested institutional involvement in the case.
