European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
IONOS, a subsidiary of the German internet services company United Internet, announced the reduction of around 450 full-time positions. Around half of these job cuts will take place in Germany. As of 24 September 2026, the other affected countries had not yet been announced.
United Internet announced the reduction of about 800 full-time positions across its subsidiaries IONOS and 1&1 Versatel in Germany.
The restructuring is driven by a strategic shift toward artificial-intelligence products and the expansion of the cloud business, aiming to fund new AI-driven services rather than improve margins. Digital transition drives the decision, as automation and efficiency gains will finance the costly transformation.
All job cuts are being implemented through voluntary programmes and age-based retirements rather than direct dismissals.
IONOS employs around 3,800 people worldwide, including 2,008 employees in Germany.
The restructuring was announced on 10 September 2026, with no completion date specified.
