European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Hotel Cascais Miragem announced the collective dismissal of 177 workers at its hotel in Cascais, comprising 142 permanent employees and 35 employees on fixed-term contracts. Five administrative staff will remain.
The hotel will close from 1 November 2026 for at least two years while undergoing an €80 million structural refurbishment. Management said the duration of the closure made collective redundancy the only legally viable solution.
The Union of Workers in the Hotel, Tourism, Restaurant and Related Industries of Southern Portugal opposed the redundancies and proposed alternative measures to preserve employment. After management rejected these proposals, the union urged affected workers to challenge their dismissals in court and offered legal assistance.
