European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Rheinmetall, a German defence manufacturer, has announced the creation of around 1,000 new jobs in Kassel and Calden through the construction of its Defence Hub Nordhessen, scheduled to begin operations in 2027.
Supported by a €285 million investment from the state of Hesse, Rheinmetall plans to expand its plant in Kassel, build a new logistics and training centre, and establish drone testing facilities at the nearby Kassel-Calden Airport. With around 30,000 square metres, the logistics centre will be one of the company’s most significant infrastructure investments in Germany and an important part of Rheinmetall’s growth strategy in the field of tactical military vehicles.
The new jobs will be created across Kassel and Calden and will cover a broad range of qualifications, including the construction, logistics and warehouse specialists as well as technical and administrative positions. Around 130 of these jobs will be located directly at the airport.
Rheinmetall already employs around 2,200 people in Kassel.
