European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The e-commerce and logistics company Amazon has announced that it will transfer its air cargo operations from Malpensa Airport to Montichiari Airport in Lombardy. This change is expected to generate around 200 job opportunities in the Brescia area, although it will also impact approximately 190 individuals who are currently employed under the Amazon cargo contract at Malpensa. The transfer is due to begin on 8 September 2026, when it is expected to boost cargo activity at Montichiari. The affected workers are employed by handling and logistics service providers operating on the Amazon contract, rather than by Amazon directly.
While trade unions welcomed the companies' willingness to explore redeployment solutions, they called for concrete commitments and a detailed implementation plan. On 3 September 2026, Regione Lombardia convened a meeting with the parties involved and requested operational proposals before the follow-up meeting scheduled for 24 September 2026.
