Description
Wizz Air, a Hungarian low-cost airline, announced the elimination of 172 positions in its Romanian operations, affecting staff at the Bucharest, Craiova, Cluj, and Iași bases.
The workforce of 1892 employees will see about 10% of roles cut, with reductions expected between October and November 2026. The restructuring is driven by high fuel costs, inflationary pressure, weakening demand, and increased competition.
All affected employees hold execution roles, including pilots, copilots, and cabin crew. Dismissals will be collective, following performance and seniority criteria, with no voluntary measures reported. The cuts are confined to Romania, without cross-border impact. Future plans include opening a new base at Brașov later in 2026, which will not affect the current cuts.
