Diageo, a British alcoholic-drinks group, announced a global cost-reduction plan that will result in at least 134 job cuts and could reach up to 246 across its operations.
The company plans to cut 96 jobs in Italy (Milan), 38 in Scotland and up to 150 in Ireland, mainly through direct dismissals.
The cuts are part of a CEO-led initiative to reduce non-core costs, as the global alcohol industry continues to face weak demand following the post-pandemic slowdown. Against this backdrop, Diageo’s organic net sales fell by 2.8% in the first half of fiscal 2026.
Social partners, including GMB Scotland, have opposed the plans, although formal negotiations have not yet begun.
