Description

Nitrochemie, a German defence and chemical company and a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, is building a new propellant powder plant in Aschau am Inn, Bavaria, which will create approximately 300 to 500 new jobs.

Production at the new facilities is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the full employment impact and production capacity expected to be reached in 2028.

The expansion reflects Germany’s commitment to strengthening domestic ammunition production and securing the European defence supply chain. The initiative underlines the strategic importance of advanced propellant manufacturing for national defence and helps to enhance resilience against potential supply disruptions. Through the investment, the company aims to more than double its annual production capacity for propellants used in artillery ammunition.
