European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Kodi, a German discount retailer, announced the initiation of insolvency proceedings and a restructuring programme in July 2026, affecting its 150 stores nationwide and approximately 1,200 employees. The company plans to close around 50 stores and reduce its workforce across the chain.
The decision has been driven by weak consumer confidence, increasing competition from digital retail models, high energy and rental costs, and rising labour expenses.
Store closures will be implemented over the coming weeks. The remaining 100 outlets will continue operating under temporary insolvency administration, while affected employees will receive wage protection for the period from July to September 2026.
The exact number of redundancies has not yet been announced; however, the planned store closures indicate significant job losses.
Kodi had previously filed for insolvency at the end of 2024, which resulted in 520 job cuts Kodi 2025 - DE.
