European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Electrolux, a Swedish appliance manufacturer, announced the elimination of 3,000 positions across its global production network. The layoffs will affect manufacturing sites in Hungary: Electrolux Professional 2026 - HU, Italy:Electrolux 2026 - IT, North America and Chile, with the workforce reductions scheduled to begin in mid-2026 and be completed by mid-2028.
The restructuring is driven by difficult market conditions in the household appliances sector, including strong competition, a 10% contraction in the North American market during the first quarter, and expected additional costs arising from tariffs on imports into North America. According to Electrolux, the measures are intended to improve operational efficiency and optimise costs across its manufacturing footprint.
Of the 3,000 planned job cuts worldwide, 1,500 are expected to occur in 2026, mainly in North America. Electrolux recently announced the closure of its plant in Santiago, Chile, resulting in 400 job losses, and the end of production at its Jászberény site in Hungary, resulting in 600 job losses. At the Anderson facility in North Carolina, refrigeration equipment production will cease as part of the reorganisation. Separately, the joint venture taking over part of the Anderson site plans to recruit 1,200 workers during 2027 and 2028. The restructuring is being implemented in phases over two years.
