Description

Cobendai, a Spanish automotive dealership group, has begun issuing objective dismissal notices to its 170 employees, citing economic, organisational and productive reasons and following the collapse of negotiations over its collective redundancy process (ERE). The dismissal letters were given on the 26th of June, following months of severe financial difficulties, during which many workers accumulated three to four months of unpaid wages while the company entered pre-insolvency proceedings.

Worker representatives have criticised the handling of the process and the lack of transparency, while affected employees describe the outcome as the end of decades-long careers without financial security. Hyundai has stated that it continues to work individually with affected customers to resolve outstanding cases.

The situation is particularly striking given that Hyundai Spain named Cobendai its “Dealer of the Year” in 2025.
