European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Gardena, a garden equipment manufacturer, has announced plans to cut 250 jobs across its production sites in Ulm, Niederstotzingen and Heuchlingen. The reductions form part of a strategic realignment of its European production network and are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2028.
The company cited revised capacity planning as the main reason for the workforce adjustment, as it seeks to maintain its competitiveness. A significant share of the roles is expected to be shifted to the Czech Republic, where Gardena already operates several production facilities.
Talks are currently underway with the works councils and the IG Metall union to determine the future of the affected sites and employees.
Gardena employs around 3,450 people worldwide, including approximately 2,200 in Germany, and has stated that its overall workforce will remain largely unchanged outside the affected locations. The company also declared not to further explore the expansion of the Heuchlingen site that was announced in 2021.
