Description

North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven (NTB), a German port and logistics hub, announced a planned reduction of its workforce at its Bremerhaven terminal, affecting around 500 employees. The reduction is scheduled to take place gradually over the coming years.

The downsizing is driven by a planned increase in automation in order to maintain competitiveness. Verdi, the workers’ union, has called for as many jobs as possible to be retained. NTB has indicated that the reduction will be implemented primarily through early retirement schemes and phased retirement arrangements.

NTB employs around 1,000 people in Bremerhaven, meaning the planned reduction represents approximately 50% of its workforce.
