Description

Decodom, one of the largest Slovak furniture producers is moving from restructuring proceedings toward bankruptcy, with production at its Topoľčany plant effectively coming to an end. Around 400 employees are potentially affected by the collapse of the company.

The company has been facing a combination of falling demand, high operating and energy costs, liquidity problems, and the failure to secure new financing or a strategic investor. The crisis escalated after the company became unable to pay wages fully and on time, leading to departures of qualified workers and growing operational instability.

Employees expressed concerns not only about unpaid wages but also about securing severance payments in the event of bankruptcy. Trade union involvement was reported through the sectoral union Odborový zväz Drevo, lesy, voda, which commented publicly on the deteriorating social situation in the company and the risks faced by employees during the restructuring and possible insolvency process.

Decodom was a longstanding symbol of the Slovak furniture industry and had operated for nearly three decades, surviving both the pandemic and the energy crisis before succumbing to prolonged market weakness and financial distress. While exact numbers have not been confirmed, it is likely that most of the companies 400 employees face dismissal in light of the insolvency proceedings.
