Description
The Czech semiconductor manufacturer ON Semiconductor which is part of the US-American onsemi group, has announced the layoff of 200 employees at its production plant in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. No specific date has been given for the completion of the layoff process.
These measures are part of a restructuring effort aimed at increasing operational efficiency in connection with the production of silicon carbide chips. The company cites weakened semiconductor demand and the consequential decline in revenues as the reason for the layoffs.
The unions have stated that they will not comment on the situation at the company.
The facility in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm employed approximately 1,700 people, so the layoffs will affect about 12 percent of them. The company is currently planning a major expansion of its chip production in Rožnov. However, this depends on securing a fairly substantial government investment incentive, which has not yet been approved.
ON Semiconductor already recently announced the dismissal of 170 employees in April 2025, which was registered in the ERM events database ON Semiconductor 2025 - CZ.
