Description

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, a Isrealian operating in the pharmaceutical sector, announced the planned reduction of around 500 jobs (approximately 20% of the workforce) affecting production workers across four sites in Italy (Rho and Caronno Pertusella in Lombardy, Santhià in Piedmont, and Villanterio in Lombardy).

The restructuring concerns all Italian Tapi (Teva Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) facilities and includes the definitive closure of the Villanterio plant, which employs around 30 workers, and is linked to the company’s intention to divest its API business following an unsuccessful earlier sale attempt.

The job losses are expected to be implemented through a collective redundancy procedure, which has been formally initiated. In response, trade unions Filctem CGIL, Femca CISL and Uiltec UIL, together with workplace representatives, have declared a state of industrial action, suspended cooperation with management and announced strikes and demonstrations, calling for negotiations aimed at safeguarding employment levels and revising the company’s industrial strategy, with involvement also sought from public authorities.
