Description
Mahle, a German automotive supplier, which produces air conditioning systems for premium vehicles, announced the closure of its factory in Neustadt an der Donau. This will result in the loss of around 350 jobs. The shutdown will begin at the end of 2026, and the plant is expected to be fully closed by mid-2027.
The decision follows falling orders for climate control units in premium vehicles, shrinking markets and price pressure from Asia. The workforce is to be reduced gradually, and the company emphasized that it intends to begin negotiations on how this can be implemented in a socially responsible way. The union IG Metall organised a 24 hour warning strike with about 300 participants and threatened indefinite strikes if the closure proceeds.
The last restructuring event recorded in the ERM database was in November 2025 with 600 job cuts: Mahle 2025 - DE.
Mahle employs more than 10,000 people in Germany.
