European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Societatea de Transport Bucuresti, a Romanian public transport operator, announced the dismissal of up to 800 auxiliary staff in Bucharest. The cuts target support personnel, excluding drivers, conductors and vehicle operators, and are part of a restructuring plan aimed at reducing management functions by at least 30 % and director numbers by 50 %.
The programme will commence in the coming months, with compensation payments to be paid for dismissed and voluntarily departing staff. The restructuring is driven by financial pressures and a planned reorganisation of the service. The rationale behind the job cuts centres on cost savings and the optimisation of operations, with no direct link to digitalisation or green transition initiatives.
The plan includes voluntary departures, which may increase the total number of exits beyond the 800 announced. Social partners, including trade unions, have expressed concerns about the selection process and are preparing legal action if the procedure is deemed unfair.
