Description
Nissan, a Japanese automaker, has announced the launch of an employment redundancy file (ERE) affecting 211 employees in Catalonia, representing nearly 40% of its regional workforce of 596. The measure will impact the company’s three remaining facilities in the region, with the most severe cuts at its spare parts centre in El Prat de Llobregat, where 110 of 122 employees are expected to be dismissed. The technical centre in Barcelona’s Zona Franca will see 86 departures, while a further 15 roles will be cut from the El Prat administrative unit.
The decision forms part of Nissan’s wider European restructuring plan, which aims to eliminate 900 positions across the continent as the company seeks to improve competitiveness and address global losses. Worldwide, Nissan plans to reduce 20,000 jobs between 2024 and 2027 and cut its number of plants from 17 to 10.
Trade unions have rejected the procedure on formal grounds and are preparing mobilisations.
