Description
Gühring, a German precision machining specialist, announced 300 job cuts in the Zollernalb region, affecting the cities of Albstadt and Sigmaringen‑Laiz. The layoffs will impact around 10 to 15 per cent of the company's workforce in the region.
The firm's management explained that the decision was due to difficult economic conditions and increasing competitive pressure. Demand for their products was declining while costs were rising, meaning the sites were not fully utilised.
The company stated that it aims to carry out the job cuts in a socially responsible way and plans to use a 61-Plus programme for older employees and a voluntary exit scheme. It is currently in negotiations with the works council as well as exploring options with the Federal Employment Agency.
Gühring employs more than 7,000 people worldwide, including over 3,500 in Germany.
