Description
AT&T, an internationally active American telecommunications company, announced a restructuring of its operations in Košice which is expected to affect approximately 250 employees. According to the trade union organisation uniJA, however, up to 337 positions were officially reported to the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family. The affected positions are formally scheduled to be abolished from 1 July 2026. However, union reports indicate that redundant employees should not receive new tasks from 14 April 2026 onwards.
The job cuts are linked to the growing automation of customer-service activities through the use of artificial intelligence and chatbot technologies, reducing the need for repetitive call-handling roles.
The layoffs concern positions in the Košice Technical Care centre. The final number of dismissals will depend on several factors, including transfers to other positions, natural staff turnover, and the opening of new vacancies. Following the restructuring, around 300 employees are expected to remain at the Košice site.
