Description
Bucharest Local Police Department (Poliția Locală a Municipiului București), announced a reduction of 130 posts, cutting its total staff from 514 to 384. The restructuring targets the administrative hierarchy, including a drop in leadership positions from 47 to 26 and a reorganisation of the TESA (Technical, Economic, and Socio-Administrative Staff) office.
The changes are confined to Bucharest, with the final decision scheduled for the General Council of the Bucharest City Hall meeting on 5 May 2026, after which the cutbacks will be implemented. The motive is a national budget reform that tightens personnel limits for local police, aiming to align staffing levels with population and fiscal constraints.
The local police workforce, now 384 employees, will continue to serve the public while operating under a leaner structure.
