Description
Nestlé, the Swiss multinational food and beverage company, announced 185 redundancies in Italy, affecting staff at its Assago site near Milan. The cuts are part of a cost-containment plan set to be completed by 2027. The restructuring is driven by rising raw-material costs for key ingredients such as coffee and cocoa, and increased competition from private-label brands. Nestlé aims to refocus investment on strategic brands to regain global competitiveness. All 185 job cuts are concentrated at the Assago office. The dismissal method remains undisclosed, and additional measures such as early retirement or internal relocation are pending.
Formal negotiations with employee representatives are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
Nestlé has operated in Italy for over a century, managing more than 2,000 brands worldwide and employing thousands of workers across the country.
