European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Thermo Fisher, a laboratory equipment manufacturer, announced plans to cut up to 100 jobs in Bremen.
The company aims to increase efficiency at the site and considers to relocate part of its production. In the future, the Bremen site is intended to be further developed as a technology hub.
Thermo Fisher entered negotiations with the works council on how the job cuts should be implemented. However, the works council and the trade union IG Metall oppose the planned job reductions and plans to possibly move part of the jobs to Czechia. They are examining alternative options, as they argue that there is no economic reason for cutting jobs because the site is profitable.
Thermo Fisher employs around 500 people at its Bremen site, including many highly skilled workers such as engineers.
