Description

Pentair, an American industrial manufacturer, announced plans to close its factory on Toekomstlaan in Herentals, Belgium, putting around 120 jobs at risk.

The restructuring concerns the production unit, where tanks for liquid transport and components for the swimming pool industry are manufactured. While around 135 people work at the site in total, 15 employees in the sales department are expected to keep their jobs, whereas the future of the 120 production workers is uncertain. The company intends to close the factory later this year.

The planned closure is driven by rising energy prices, increasing labour costs and strong competitive pressure, particularly from China. According to trade union representatives, wage costs have risen by around 20% over the past five years, further weakening the site’s competitivenes. entair stated that it will enter into discussions with the works council and trade unions to look for solutions and support measures for the affected employees.
