Hunan Yuneng, a Chinese battery manufacturer, announced the construction of its first cathode‑material plant in Europe. The new facility in Mérida, Extremadura, will create about 500 direct jobs. The expansion is part of Spain’s green‑transition strategy to strengthen the electric‑vehicle supply chain. Production is expected to start before the end of 2026. The project, backed by local authorities, aims to boost Extremadura’s industrial profile and secure a key position in the battery manufacturing sector.
