Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lemus, a Danish manufacturer specializing in furniture with integrated audio, has decided to move a significant part of its production from China to Denmark. Specifically, in 2021, it reshored to Denmark the production of cabinets for their loudspeakers. Through this operation, the company aims to improve its resilience in the face of global economic uncertainties, reduces freight costs and lead times and enhances product quality and control over the value chain. Also, this move will allow to support job creation in Denmark, reduce CO2 emissions, and use European certified wood. The company recognizes that production in Denmark is more costly, but when including factors like complaints, shipping and lead times, the price difference equalizes.
