Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In 2020, French Boat Market (FBM) acquired the luxury French outboard brand White Shark. In 2021, FBM announced the relocation of White Shark manufacturing operations from Italy to France, specifically to the island of Noirmoutier in Vendée. Repurposing former Bénéteau premises, FBM brought the site up to current standards and adapted it for White Shark production. This strategic move aims to mass-produce luxury boats, streamline manufacturing processes, and meet rigorous quality standards through comprehensive testing. The development plans target around 130 units per year. In 2022, approximately thirty employees, specializing in lamination, composites, and assembly, were engaged in the production process, with ongoing recruitment in logistics, finishing, and gelcoat lamination. The workforce may eventually expand to 70 employees.
