Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Tullins-based company Eur’Ohm was created in 2003 and specializes in electrical equipment for professionals. In 2023, the company lunched a project of significant expansion of the site in Tullins and relocation of its production, predominantly based in China. This operation aims to meet the growing demand from consumers (mainly French) and reduce the company carbon footprint. It plans to construct a new facility near its existing one in Pays Voironnais, investing over ten million euros. The expansion, scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024, will increase production lines from three to sixteen within three years, accompanied by a workforce expansion from approximately 100 to 150 employees. The relocalization initiative aligns with Eur’Ohm's commitment to environmental values, incorporating green practices such as green electricity, solar panels, and the use of biodegradable materials. This move is not only driven by environmental responsibility but also by customer demand for sustainable practices. Despite the relocalization, the company will maintain its three green-oriented factories in China ,for medium-scale productions, ensuring no impact on the existing Chinese workforce of around 700 employees .
