European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Komatsu Forest, a Swedish forest-machinery manufacturer, announced the loss of 90 jobs at its Umeå production plant. The reduction was said to likely affect 63 permanent and 27 temporary staff, all of whom worked in production. The cuts were triggered by weak ordering flows caused by war, tariffs and high interest rates.
In addition to the redundancies, around 100 white‑collar employees will be placed on short‑time work, with working hours reduced by 20% from mid‑September 2025. Earlier in the year, the company had also announced another round of redundancies affecting 80 people, though permanent staff were ultimately retained at that time.
Trade unions are involved, including IF Metall, whose local representative commented publicly on the situation. The Umeå plant employs around 670 people and has housed Komatsu Forest’s headquarters and manufacturing operations since the company was founded in 2004.
