Proximus, a Belgian telecommunications company, announced a 10 % reduction in its workforce, translating to about 1 200 jobs, affecting employees across the country.
The change follows a strategy shift toward domestic growth and a significant cut in the dividend. The restructuring is driven by the need to invest over €1.2 billion annually in fiber-optic networks and by the rise of new technologies that enable automation, particularly AI, to maintain service levels with fewer staff. The 1 200 jobs will fade through natural attrition.
Proximus currently employs about 13 000 people; the 10 % cut will be phased over several years, with the first reductions expected to begin in 2026.
