Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Medpex, a subsidiary of DocMorris, a Swiss online pharmacy group, has announced the closure of its site in Ludwigshafen, Germany, resulting in the loss of around 100 jobs.
The closure is scheduled to be completed by mid-2026, with most employees expected to leave by the end of April and all positions terminated by June or July, as operations are relocated to the company’s existing facility in Heerlen, Netherlands, due to declining profitability in non-pharmaceutical products and a shift towards prescription-based business.
So far, it is expected that the job reductions will be implemented through direct dismissals.
Medpex, founded in 2005, was one of Germany’s major mail-order pharmacies and operated within the DocMorris Group.
