European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Deutsche Bahn, a German rail transport and logistics company, announced 100 job cuts affecting its maintenance ("Ausbesserungswerk") facility in Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The job reductions concern employees in the production unit and are linked to a planned adjustment of staffing levels to a lower future workload. The restructuring will be implemented in the near term.
Of the 100 jobs concerned, the specific reduction measures are currently under negotiation between management and the works council as part of an interest reconciliation process. Affected employees are expected to be offered alternative employment within the Deutsche Bahn group or, alternatively, severance packages. The facility itself will remain operational.
Employee representatives are involved in ongoing negotiations, while local authorities have expressed concern about the impact on workers and the region. The mayor of Paderborn described the announcement as a “serious blow” and called for a sustainable concept to secure jobs at the site.
The DB Group employs around 227,400 people worldwide; in Germany, with around 217,000 employees, DB is one of the largest employers.
