Description
Westfalen Mobil, a German manufacturer of camping vans, announced the loss of 130 permanent jobs or around 40 percent of its permanent workforce at its production facility in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. According to the announcement, a further 83 fixed-term contract workers are affected by the measure.
The job cuts are being made against the backdrop of a difficult market environment in the caravan industry and an announced decline in order volume from a major customer of around 30%, which is why the company wants to streamline its organisational structure and adjust production capacities at the site. The measures are to be implemented in the coming months, while the company aims to organise its production more efficiently and adapt it to the changed market conditions.
Management has informed the works council of the planned measures; negotiations on a reconciliation of interests and a social plan with employee representatives have been announced. The IG Metall union has criticised the plans and stated that it intends to work with the works council to examine whether the announced job cuts are necessary and appropriate.
Westfalen-Mobil is a manufacturer of camping vans based in Rheda-Wiedenbrück and employs around 320 people at its site.
