Description
Kayser, a German bakery chain, announced 120 job cuts affecting workers across its retail bakery outlets in the Märkischer Kreis region in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The affected positions are mainly permanent jobs in bakery production and retail sales. The restructuring resulted in the closure of 14 branches across the region.
The job losses follow the company’s insolvency and the closure of its business operations by 1 March 2026. No investor could be found to take over the company despite an extensive search by the insolvency administrator.
The trade union Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten criticised the situation, describing the closure as a missed opportunity and pointing to outdated equipment at the company as a contributing factor.
Kayser is a traditional German bakery company founded in 1890 in Neuenrade, supplying baked goods across the Märkischer Kreis region. A previous restructuring occurred around 2024 following an earlier insolvency and attempted restart of the company under the name “Kayser 3”.
