Description
Sande Stahlguss, a German steel-casting company, has announced the immediate closure of its foundry in Sande, Niedersachsen, resulting in the loss of more than 100 jobs.
The closure is driven by insolvency caused by liquidity shortages, the high production costs associated with manufacturing components weighing up to 100 tonnes, delayed customer payments, and rising energy expenses. Years of insufficient modernisation also diminished the company’s appeal to potential investors, ultimately leaving no viable path forward.
The works council and the IG Metall trade union have publicly confirmed the job losses and voiced their frustration at the prolonged delays and lack of necessary investment.
With a history spanning more than 90 years, Sande Stahlguss produced around 3,500 tonnes of specialised steel components annually for sectors such as machinery, energy, shipbuilding, turbine manufacturing, and compressor technology, employing over 100 people prior to the closure.
