Description
Deutsche Welle, Germany’s international public broadcaster, has announced plans to eliminate roughly 160 full-time positions as part of a broader cost-saving initiative. According to the organization, no compulsory redundancies are planned.
The restructuring is prompted by a €10 million reduction in federal funding. At the same time, additional costs of around €11 million are arising due to unadjusted collectively agreed wage increases, leaving the organization with no choice but to streamline its operations. The cost-saving package was approved during a special joint meeting of the Broadcasting Council, the Administrative Board, and the Executive Management team.
Deutsche Welle is a federally owned public institution headquartered in Bonn and Berlin. Its mission is to provide an accurate and nuanced portrayal of Germany, foster international dialogue, and promote democratic values to audiences around the world. The company has around 3,000 employees.
