Description
The Lithuanian State Data Agency, is laying off 57 employees, 38 of whom will be laid off already on Friday, February 27. According to agency representatives, most of the redundancies will affect medium-skilled employees who have performed the functions of drivers, press officers, price registrars, technical statistical research staff, as well as other functions that have become redundant or insufficient.
As a reason for the redundancies the agency mentions that its current structure is not sufficiently exploiting its human capital. Therefore, the agency has already begun a reorganisation of its activities to ensure effective operations and automate processes and which is now causing the layoffs. Moreover, the agency received an expanded mandate. In addition to compiling official statistics, the agency took on the responsibility of utilising public sector data in decision-making.
The agencies funds were previously used on training employees to develop analytical, programming, and operational optimisation skills. Savings from the restructuring are intended for recruitment and retaining highly qualified staff, as well as to cover salary increases for existing employees.
