Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Calconut, the Alicante-based processor and trader of nuts and traditionally focused on Californian almonds, has announced the creation of 100 new Jobs linked to a €20 million expansion project at its Mutxamel headquarters, scheduled for completion in early 2027. The new 8,000 m² facility will incorporate additional roasting, frying, flavouring and packaging lines, increasing annual production capacity by 10,000 tonnes to 70,000 tonnes.
The company expects to close 2026 with revenues of approximately €376 million. Growth has been driven primarily by its expanding retail division, particularly through its own brand ‘nut&me’, alongside private-label production. Retail sales surged 183% year-on-year, becoming a key pillar of the company’s future development. Meanwhile, Calconut’s traditional international trading and wholesale operations continue to provide volume and global market stability.
Looking ahead, Calconut aims to surpass €500 million in revenue by 2030, consolidating its position as one of Europe’s leading operators in nuts and food ingredients.
