Description
Schaeffler, a German global automotive and industrial supplier, has announced that it plans to cut up to 800 jobs at its production plant in Brașov, Romania.
The cuts are part of its global restructuring programme involving a reduction of approximately 4,700 jobs Schaeffler 2024-WO . The restructuring is driven by economic weakness, intense competition from Asian manufacturers, and the automotive industry’s transition away from internal combustion engine (ICE) technologies. As part of a consolidation strategy, the production of standard bearings and brass cages will be moved from Brașov to Asia, while the site will simultaneously be reinforced as a central location for linear technology components’ by absorbing production from sites in Germany (Homburg) and Taiwan (Taoyuan). The programme will be negotiated with employee representatives.
Schaeffler employs nearly 5,000 people in Romania and aims to reach viable solutions with employee representatives.
