European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The German machinery manufacturer Weinig has announced plans to cut 400 jobs worldwide by the end of 2027 as part of its “Transformation 2027” programme: Weinig 2026 - WO. The reductions will mainly affect the company’s German sites, although it is not yet clear where exactly the jobs will be eliminated. Parts of the production are also expected to be relocated.
According to the company, the job cuts are to be carried out in a socially responsible manner. Weinig cites global market uncertainties, such as U.S. trade policy and the war in Ukraine, as key reasons for the downsizing, adding that the order situation is below expectations.
The IG Metall union has announced that they will enter negotiations to fight for the jobs. ??Weinig employs around 2,500 people worldwide and is a specialist in wood processing machinery.
