Description
Somfy, a French industrial group specialising in home automation and automated shutters, has announced that it will cut 550 jobs worldwide by the end of 2026.
In France, the layoffs will affect 350 positions, primarily managers and white-collar employees Somfy 2026-FR . Factories and production workers are currently excluded from the cuts; the research and development (R&D) departments in Cluses, Bonneville, and Annecy are expected to be the most impacted. Trade unions expressed shock and anxiety over the plan, noting that despite international competition and stagnant volumes, the company remains financially healthy and a world leader. Negotiations with trade unions are due to begin in February 2026 and are expected to last four months, with voluntary redundancies being the stated priority.
The restructuring is a strategic response to a severe downturn in the European construction and new housing markets caused by rising interest rates and increased construction costs.
Somfy operates in 59 countries and employs about 5,800 people worldwide.
